NAHB National Green Building Standard (NGBS)
National Green Building Standard (NGBS) is a national green building rating system developed by Home Innovation Labs, and independent subsidiary of National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). NGBS Green certification provides independent, third-party verification that a home, building, or land development is designed and built to achieve high performance in six key areas:
- Site Design
- Resource Efficiency
- Water Efficiency
- Energy Efficiency
- Indoor Environmental Quality
- Building Operation & Maintenance.
NGBS is approved by American National Standard (ANSI) delivering healthy indoor air environment, lower operating costs, and promoting an active lifestyle. NGBS is one of a few approved green building certifications for Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Green Mortgage Insurance Premium Reduction program – HUD 223(f).
NGBS delivers a robust and flexible scorecard giving home builders several options to achieve Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum Certifications. Practical green building practices in the NGBS scorecard is designed to help builders construct higher performing, higher quality homes with reduced environmental impacts. The wide range of point possibilities over the six green categories provides owner/builders the flexibility to select practices that work best for local markets.
